Building Hometree Headquarters
Last September we broke ground on our new Headquarters facility at Ardnaculla, County Clare. This project was in part funded by William Fry and L’Occitane. The new facility partially replaces the old farm sheds that were there when we established ourselves here earlier this year. It features an indoor space perfect for gathering to learn about trees while sheltering from the rain on one of our busy tree planting and maintenance days!
Hometree was thrilled to be working with Harrison Gardner, co-founder of Common Knowledge. He ran a Course to build the classroom and office. Attendees learn how to, lay foundations, harvest rainwater, generate their own renewable energy and even create sustainable building materials from the surrounding environment. The main structure of the building came together in only two weeks. Some of the materials used in the building process included cob.
From the bottom of our hearts thank you to every single person who took part in any of the building courses, thank you to Niamh Fox for feeding everyone, thank you to Harrison Gardner and the team for your passion, knowledge and guidance. Hometree Charity officially has a home with actual walls!
To quote Matt, Hometree co-founder and general manager:
“After one 1/2 years of planning, collaborating, unpacking, discussing, dreaming, visioning and working very hard, I've had my first few days of work in the new office at Hometree Charity. The building is Watertight and warm, and I share the space with some very talented people. It's a wonder to think what will be discussed and generated from this small little office space. Already some of the work we are exploring is how to blend ideal environmental work with policy landowners and bring in the funding. I have worked for home true as a volunteer for the past five years. We have already done such outstanding work. But this is a new era, and I am confident we will contribute to the healing of our planet and creating bountiful ecosystems whilst sharing the journey with thousands of people.”
We are excited to continue to set up the space so in the near future we can open doors to you all and share our knowledge, passion and love for a wilder and more tree filled future.
